Do you ever find yourself with too many tasks on today’s to-do list, yet completely strapped on time? I know we have. All the time! And what do we typically do? We usually deprioritize our self-care work and focus more on the everything and everyone else–to our own detriment.
We know we committed to working out for 30min at least 3 times this week, eating 3 healthy breakfasts, and meditating for 10min daily–but our schedule has thrown those plans for a loop. Check out the Instagram clip below, which is a fresh take on what you can do the next time you feel this way!
At the end of the day, the goal for us is consistency! The goal is showing up for yourself regardless! So if that means only working out 3 times this week for only 10 minutes between tasks, that works! It’s progress! If you could only manage to eat 1 piece of fruit or veggie to your not-so-healthy breakfast, it’s progress! If you only have time to meditate for 5 minutes daily instead of 10 minutes,
IT’S OKAY! IT’S PROGRESS!
For Jordan, this has come up pretty often in conversation with his 70+ year old grandmother who lives alone in Florida–by choice (she doesn’t like people lol). For years now, her typical routine is hanging out at home watching TV, reading books, and doesn’t leave the house unless she the grocery store or the doctor’s office is calling her. Every few years, she’s goes through a season of pain in her joints as a result of not regularly exercising such as taking walks around the neighborhood, etc. or eating healthier foods such as drinking plenty of water. She jokes with us all the time how much she hates the taste of water, going outside, and how she prefers to stay in bed watching TV, drinking Coke soda, and frying chicken every other day 🤣. What we see holding her back the most isn’t that she doesn’t have time, but it’s her own mindset about proper self-care. She knows what she needs to do, why she should do it, yet she chooses not to take action.
Unfortunately, she typically only experiences the benefits of regular exercise and healthy eating AFTER it’s seemingly too late…When life has literally brought her to her knees. Two weeks ago, she called to tell us how much pain she was in around her hip joints, and how she could barely cope any longer. Finally, she decided to seek out professional help from a doctor who recommended physical therapy twice a week.
After calling us this week, she was very happy and relieved to share that she’s been feeling MUCH BETTER after only two sessions of physical therapy! Not only that, but we finally see all the positive advice and encouragement we’ve been sharing for months sinking in. We almost gave up yall haha. She was also so proud to share that she’d been taking it upon herself to take short walks up the street to the stop sign and back to the house daily between sessions! Yo we were so proud. Almost as proud as we were mind-blown that she had began to make changes in her decisions, despite her often stubborn mindset (Yes, she’s where my Father and I got it from! 😅)
I share this all to say, it’s completely okay if everything doesn’t go according to plan! Just show up and do something!
IT’S PROGRESS! Once the habit is formed, you will be naturally motivated to do more, but focus on showing up first!
